THOR Race Report

It was yet another good day at the office for Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl at the FIM Motocross World Championship in Talavera, Spain where the German placed second overall (1-3) in the MXGP class and has extended his MXGP championship lead.

Tyla Rattray scored seventh place for the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team. The South African continues to consolidate his position in the series after an injury-riddled start to thecampaign and has now finished top eight in each of his last four starts.

Todd Waters had an up and down day. Ending the opening lap of race one in fourth, the Australian claimed a top ten result with ninth. Hopes of a repeat result in race two were dashed when he crashed at the start and broke his clutch lever.

Jordi Tixier raced to his third consecutive podium for the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team. The reigning world champ secured top five starts in both races, moving forward to third in each and appearing to be on the way to his firstoverall GP victory of the year until he suffered stomach cramps in the second moto and was forced to relinquish one position to finish fourth and earn the final place on the podium.

Dylan Ferrandis battled defiantly to successfully defend his second place in the points standings despite knocking his head when he crashed during the qualification. Sadly his first GP moto came to an early sudden end as the brake disc was damaged in a collision, but Dylan sprinted clear at the start of race two to lead until three laps from the end despite hurting his knee during the race.

Thomas Covington, third member of the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team, rode an impressive qualification race to lead until the very last lap, but sadly his starts were not so good on race day and, hampered towards the end of the long races after being sick during the week, he had to be satisfied with fourteenth place in each moto. Thomas now holds eleventh place in the championship standings.

Round 7 of the 18 round series takes place in Matterly Basin (Wincester) UK on the 23-24 May.
