KEMEA Yamaha Yamalube

KEMEA Yamaha Official MX team: GP9  Talavera de la Reina, Spain

With a brilliant second place overall, Benoit Paturel has scored the first podium of the year for the KEMEA Yamaha MX team. Paturel, who finished 4th and 2nd in the motos showed he has the potential to mix it up with the front runners in the MX2 class battling for the podium.

Benoit had a great feeling all weekend long and was in the top part of the charts in all the sessions.  A strong 3rd position in Saturdays qualifying gave him a good start position and a boost of confidence for the races. In the first moto the French rider was in 9th after the first lap but managed to force himself towards the top 5 after a couple of laps. In the end he got stuck in the rear wheel of Pauls Jonass and finished fourth.

In the second moto Paturel had a great jump out of the gate and was only a couple of cm short of winning the holeshot award. He did manage to get out of the first corner in the lead and led the race for two laps before Herlings came by. He tried to keep the wheel of the championship leader and together they put all the rest on a pretty big gap. In the end Benoit had no problems anymore and secured second place and a second overall. In the championship standings Benoit did a great job too, getting a 11pt advantage on the 5th in the standings.

Brent Vandoninck had another difficult weekend. He has been suffering an injury on his thumb for a couple of weeks now and could not ride like he should. He crashed early in qualification and left the race in lap 3. In the first moto Brent started outside the top 20 and was doing a pretty good job coming back. He was riding in 13th halfway through the moto when he fell. He couldn’t start fast and left the race with his thumb being too painful too. He decided not to start anymore in the second moto and will consult a doctor this week.

"It feels so good to be on the podium. I had some bad races a couple of weeks ago but in the last weeks I managed to build up some confidence, with this as a result. I can’t thank the team and everybody behind me enough, but in particular I want to thank Jacky Vimond. It’s because of him I am here! He does so much for me, either for the MX races or the rest of my life and I’m really grateful for that! This is a great feeling, and I’m already looking forward to next week for my home race!"

"I’ve been dealing with this injury since I came back from my hip injury. The doctor already told me I would need an operation to fix it, but if I wanted I could try to ride. At first it was ok to ride but the last weeks the pain got worse. I tried to ride with a brace last week but that was even more painful. I will see some doctors this week to get their opinion and get it fixed. It’s better to stop now and get back in action for the last races. It doesn’t make sense to continue like this, it’s demotivating every time I’m on the bike. I hope to be back in 7/8 weeks so I’ll be able to show myself in the last part of the season."
