Thor Race Report

Thor Race report: Thor riders endure rutted Indonesian MXGP.

The 12th round of the FIM MXGP series held in Pangkal Pinang, Indonesia, has seen Thor racer’s, Clement Desalle, Julien Lieber and Evgeny Bobryshev endure a rutted, technical track that took a lot of rainfall prior to the event.

Having qualified 3rd in Staurday’s race, Desalle had a good gate pick for the main program on Sunday and as the gate dropped for the first moto he positioned himself into the top 5 on the opening lap. Biding his time, Desalle, waited to make his move on an aggressive Gajser and then pounced on the Slovakian to take over third. He had Herlings within his sites however the Dutchman managed to defend his position.   Bobryshev rode a strong moto and came from a long way back to break into the top ten. He crossed the line in 9th place showing consistent speed. Julien Lieber made the most of a tough Indonesian ordeal after his return from a shoulder injury. The resilient Belgian placed 12th at the checkered flag.

Guns blazing on the opening lap of moto 2 , Desalle charged into second place behind Herlings but was caught off guard as he chose a softer rut and lost 5 places. He then had a small crash in a rutted corner and had to claw his way back up the ladder to salvage 8th spot. Bobryshev was able to take advantage of the Desalle mistake and was up to 8th with 10 minutes gone on the clock. The Russian lost a few spots at one stage but settled and came back strong to finish 9th. Mistakes by Lieber made the final moto very tough as he had to settle for 16th place.
Riders and teams will now transfer to Semarang located approximately 450km South East of Jakarta where round 13 will be held on the 7-8 July.
