KEMEA Yamaha Official MX team: GP16 Assen, Nederlands
The Iconic TT-track in Assen hosted the final European round of this years World championship campaign. ‘ The cathedral of speed’ is the perfect location to finish this chapter, and after the succes from last year, the expectations were high! The weekend started promising, but some heavy thunderstorms on Sunday morning gave the race a different twitch.
In MX2 KEMEA exclusively had a 3 rider line up in Assen. Maxime made his MX2 debut in Holland and got the opportunity to show himself with the big boys. In qualification Benoit finished the race in 7th, Maxime in 12th and Brent in 14th.
For the first race, the track seemed more like a big enduro special after the rain. Benoit had a good start and took the lead in the second lap. He led for several laps until he made some mistakes dropping him to fifth position in the end. Brent and Maxime got troubles already in the opening laps of the race. After another crash halfway through, Maxime left the race. It took Brent two laps to get his bike free. He rejoined the race and finished in 22nd.
In the second moto all three KEMEA riders had a mediocre start, riding just outside the top 10. Brent moved up from 14th to 9th, just ahead of Benoit in 10th. Maxime crossed the finish line in 12th after a solid race. Paturel got 7th overall and remains third in de standings. Brent got 15th overall and Maxime got 18th at his GP debut.
"There was more potential in this race then 7th overall… I’m fairly disappointed about the results. The first moto was going well until I started making errors. I pushed a little too hard and that’s what you can’t do in these conditions. The second moto I had a bad start and couldn’t come back well."
"Seems like luck isn’t at my side recently… In the first moto I crashed in the waves and got stuck in the mud. It took me two laps to get back in the race. In the second moto my riding wasn’t too bad, but I expected a little more then ninth…"
"That for sure wasn’t the easiest race to ride my first GP. The conditions were really though but overall I’m happy with my speed. In the first moto I crashed already in the first lap so that got difficult for the rest. In the second moto I had a good pace and I’m happy with 12th."
During the weekend Yamaha announced KEMEA will be the official Yamaha MX2 team in 2017 and 2018 with Benoit, Brent and Alvin Ostlund as riders.
