KEMEA Yamaha Official MX team: GP12 Mantova, Italy

After a double DNF last week in Matterley Basin, Benoit Paturel has regrouped pretty good finishing 6th overall at the Italian MXGP in Mantova. Under tropical temperatures, at times above 35°C, Paturel scored a 7-4 result and showed good speed all weekend long aboard his YZ250F.

On Saturday Benoit had a great jump out of the gate. He managed to avoid the crashes in turn 1&2 and took the lead of the race ahead of Dylan Ferrandis. Looking well on his way to score a good qualifying result, he crashed coming on the start straight, dropping a lot of places. In the end Benoit finished 26th. Karlis too had a good start and finished 11th for the races on Sunday.

In the first moto Benoit had a decent start considering his gate pick. He moved forward lap by lap and finished 7th in the end. Karlis rode a solid race too. He crossed the line in 16th after the first lap and survived the exhausting race finishing 18th.
In the final MX2 moto Benoit had another good start. He quickly moved up to fourth and was closing the gap with Bogers in third when he crashed. He lost a position to Tonkov and got a lot of pressure from a large group behind, but he could pass the Russian again and secure his fourth place. Benoit gets 6th overall and regains 4th position in the championship standings. Karlis struggled with the heat in the final moto but carried on to another 18th place finish, scoring another 3 valuable points. He gets 20th overall and is now 31st in the championship standings.

"After the crash last week I didn’t ride all week, so in the end I’m happy with this GP in difficult conditions. It’s a shame I crashed in the qualifying race resulting in a bad gate pick. I felt good though on Sunday and had a good pace. Without the crash in the second moto I could have been third but in the end I’m satisfied. No vacation for me though now in the summer break. We keep working hard to have a strong end of the season."

Benoit Paturel

"This was one hard GP! I suffered a lot in the heat but I’m happy to score 18th in both races. The feeling on the bike was good and I was pretty consistent. In the second moto I went really deep physically. Towards the end I didn’t know anymore whether there was a lap left of it was finished. I had to puke and needed some time to recover after the race. Another good experience though and I enjoyed it."
