KEMEA Yamaha Official MX team: GP8  Pietramurata, Italy

Near the banks of Lake Garda in Italy, the 8th round of the World Championship MXGP took place. With a marvelous scenery, the track in Arco di Trento is always one of the favorites on the calendar. Rain showers on Saturday made the qualification races pretty hard for the riders, but for the motos on Sunday the track was dry and on point.

Both MX2 riders Vandoninck and Paturel had a horror afternoon on Saturday. They both crashed and left the race pretty early, resulting in a 39th and 40th gate pick for Sunday. In the first moto on raceday Benoit and Brent had a decent start and they were riding inside the top 10 pretty soon. Brent had a strong comeback to 10th followed by Benoit in 12th position.

Benoit had a good jump out of the gate in moto 2 and was immediately inside the top 10. Lap by lap he moved up and finished fifth in the wheel of Bogers who was in fourth. Paturel eventually finished 6th overall. Brent had a bad start and couldn’t find a good rhythm. For a while he was in 17th but he crossed the line in 19th, grabbing 2 points for the championship. He got 15th overall and is now 11th in the championship. Benoit once again did a good job in the standings and now moves up to fourth!

"For Brent and Benoit the weekend was already ruined on Saturday. Passing is really hard on this track and the start is so important. Both crashed but maybe they should have continued and tried to get as close as they could. 25th gate pick is still way better then 40th…In the first moto both rode a solid race. For sure towards the end they did a strong effort and managed to limit the damage. In the second moto Benoit had a good start en was riding good. It was possible to even get closer if he didn’t have the goggle issues at the end. His vision was too bad to attack for fourth place. Brent had an off-race in the second moto. He had a bad start and nothing worked out. We expected this a little. It has been a though three weeks for him coming back after the injury, and a week extra to recover will do him good for sure. Benoit is now fourth in the standings and I’m really pleased with that! Maybe there are still a couple of riders faster then him behind, but we’re close to the halfway point and he’s right there! That’s a good thing for the team and for Benoit."
