Thor Race Report

Thor Race report: 3 Thor riders top 10 in Matterly Basin MXGP.

Sunny blue skies welcomed racers and spectators to the second round of the FIM motocross world championship held at the Matterly Basin circuit in the UK.

Race conditions were perfect with the undulating high speed track offering a bird’s eye view to spectators who turned out in their droves. Clement Desalle lead the onslaught of THOR riders, although the Belgian would have a tough weekend as a hard crash in Saturday’s qualification race saw him nursing an injured hand coming into Sunday’s race. A commendable 4th in moto 1 after racing through the pain was backed up by an even more tenacious ride when he went down in a similar crash in moto2 and had to re-mount from stone last to finish 7th securing 4th overall. Team-mate Julien Lieber was involved in the same crash which put a shadow on his first moto 10th finish.   Lieber was only able to salvage 1 point in moto 2.

Home favourite, Max Anstie, was eager to reproduce his amazing performance at the MXON 2 years prior however it was not to be for the likable Brit. He had to fight his way through the pack in moto 2 to salvage 14th spot. His combined 7-14 score for 9th was one place shy of team-mate Glenn Coldenhoff who had a consistent day in Matterly. Considering that just a few months ago, the 2018 nations winner, had broken his neck in a freak training accident, Coldenhoff secured 8th overall in his second GP back from injury. Ivo Monticelli battled to find his rhythm in moto1 but then grabbed a great start in moto 2 and held on for 10th place by the checkered flag.

With little time to rest, team’s and riders head to the sand of Valkenswaard next weekend for the second of 3 back to back MXGP’s.
