THOR Race report: MXGP season finale sees Max Anstie on the podium

The final round of the FIM MXGP series took place at the hillside circuit of Villars sous Ecot in France. Scattered showers over the entire weekend turned the picturesque venue into a muddy lottery, however THOR’s Max Anstie thrived in the conditions and secured another consecutive podium to end off his rookie MXGP season on a high.

The Britt had the partisan crowd literally on their feet as he challenged home favourite, Romain Febvre, for the victory in Saturday’s qualification race. Anstie tracked down the Frenchman and made a well calculated pass with 5 mins to run to set himself on pole for Sunday’s two moto’s. A good start in Moto 1 saw Anstie batteling for a podium spot with Jeffrey Herlings with Anstie having to settle for 4th. Anstie retaliated in moto 2 and took the early lead with Herlings hot on his heels. The Dutchman would eventually win the race with Anstie second, claiming 3rd overall on the podium.

Max Nagl struggled in the rutted, slippery conditions and could only manage a 12-14 score. He scured 8th in the final standings with Anstie right behind him in 9th. Both Nagl and Asntie will represent Germany and the UK respectively at the MXON in Matterly Basin, close to Wincester on the 1 October.

Clement Desalle had to sit out the final race after sustaining a broken C6 vertebra in Assen at the penultimate round. He still secured 4th in the overall championship standings but will have to watch Team Belgium at the MXON in two weeks as they challenge for the coveted Chamberlain Trophy.
