Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge

Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge: Van Beveren - Vice World Champion.

Adrien Van Beveren travelled to Abu Dhabi with the Yamaha Monster Energy Rally Team for the last round of the world rally-raid championship.

In the heart of a demanding desert, the riders were going to fight for victory, but also for a good final position in the world championship standings.

With less than two months to go before the start of the 2022 Dakar in Saudi Arabia, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge represents one of the last opportunities to prepare for the big event. The three-time winner of the Enduropale du Touquet was back on a terrain he particularly likes, sand and dunes. Summary of rally week: a short prologue near the Yas Marina Circuit and five stages in the Liwa Desert of the 'Empty Quarter' (= Rub al-Khali).

At the end of this intensive week of racing, the French rider finished the event in second place overall, as best 'performer', thanks to three stage victories out of five possible. By finishing second, 4 minutes behind the winner - who didn't win a stage on this rally - Adrien clearly proves that he is one of the contenders, upcoming January.
Thanks to this podium in Abu Dhabi, Adrien finishes second in the world championshipsafter a solid and consistent year that started with a podium in Kazakhstan.

After years of success on sand races, the move to rally-raid was a real challenge on the international scene for Adrien, competing against the world's best & the different factory teams. This title of VICE WORLD CHAMPION is already an incredible achievement!

"After two accidents in the Dakar, it's a big challenge to get back to the level, gain the confidence, ... Rally-raids are very demanding, confidence and concentration are very important. There is risk-taking, the fact of accepting the risk and all the adrenaline that goes with it", says Adrien. "I never stopped believing, I worked a lot and I was able to progress throughout the season, with a good performance in Morocco for example, on a terrain full of rocks."
