Thor race report: Cairoli ends professional racing career in front of home crowd.

The final round of the FIM Motocross world championship has concluded in front of a sell-out crowd in Mantova, Italy.

Tony Cairoli was hoping to be in the mix but an unfortunate crash with another rider in moto 1, forced the nine-time world champ to retire. Jorge Prado grabbed the hole-shot and held onto the lead for three laps before Jeffrey Herlings made the pass. Prado would fend off challenges from Febvre, Gajser and Seewer but then eventually had to relinquish second spot.  The Spaniard would cross the finish line in 5th with Brian Bogers rounding out the top 10 on his Factory Standing Construct Gas Gas.

The second moto would see Prado grab another hole-shot but the three title protagonists quickly made their way past. Brian Bogers put in some solid laps and would take over 5th position before the halfway mark.  He would hold onto the position until the checkered flag followed by Prado in 7th. Cairoli finished 10th in his final race of his career and then went on to say goodbye to the Italian crowd with a final parade lap.

MX2 rookie, Mattia Guadagnini grabbed a top 5 start in the MX2 first moto and looked settled during the 35min + 2 lap race.  A mistake on lap ten pushed him down the ladder after which he fought hard to regain his lost positions.  He passed Conrad Mewse on the final lap to re-claim 5thplace.

A rocketing start and hole-shot saw the Italian crowd go nuts as Guadagnini lead the opening laps.  Newly crowned MX2 world champ, Maxime Renaux made a move on the third lap to take over the lead.  Guadagnini had is hands full with Geerts and had to give up his spot to the Belgian.  He then settled in 3rd and ran a strong pace to the finish line. Guadagnini finished 4th in the MX2 championship, making him the best finishing rookie.
