Thor Race Report

Thor race report: Cairoli and Prado 5th and 6th in final round of Pietramurata trilogy.

The 16thround of the FIM Motocross World championship held in Pietramurata, Italy has completed the triple header with Thor riders playing an important role in the tightly contested MXGP championship.

Jorge Prado quickly moved his way into second place as the first MXGP got underway.  The Spaniard trailed leader Jeremy Sewer for half the moto until championship title contenders Febvre, Herlings and Gajser made their way past.  Antonio Cairoli was also on the move coming from mediocre start and slotted into 5th completing the freight train.   Pauls Jonass would start the moto but the pain from broken ribs sustained in the previous round on Wednesday was unbearable and even though the Latvian and former MX2 world champ could post a decent qualifying time he was forced to retire after 10mins.  Cairoli and Prado would cross the finish line 5th and 7th respectively.

MXGP Moto 2 would see Jorge Prado grab his 15th hole-shot of the season closely followed by team-mate Cairoli. Gasjer would split the two KTM riders and then take over the lead while mayhem pursued further down the field.  Herlings had two crashes, the latter being high speed that almost ended his title hopes. Cairoli and Prado would finish 5th and 6th after allowing Herlings to regain some positions on the final lap.

Mattia Guadagnini came away bruised and battered from MX2 moto 1.  Thor’s MX2 rookie went down twice and banged his knee which forced him to retire from the moto.  He showed grit by starting the second moto and managed to salvage 9th spot at the end of a grueling 35min + 2 lap race.

With very little time left to recover, riders head a little south to Mantova for a double header that will complete the 2021 MX World championship season on Sunday 7th and Wednesday 10 November.
