Thor race report: Cairoli wins MXGP of Pietramurata!

Antonio Cairoli has celebrated his 94th  MX Grand Prix victory at round 15 of the FIM MX World championship held in Pietramurata in Italy. The second leg of a triple header saw the 9-times world champ post an impressive 3-1 score to secure victory in front of home crowd.

As the gate dropped for MXGP moto 1, Jorge Prado gabbed the hole-shot with Tim Gajser and fellow team-mate Cairoli breathing down his neck. The opening laps would see a number of position changes with Cairoli eventually settling into 3rd, while Prado lost a few spots. Pauls Jonass went down on the opening lap and recovered to 17th while Bogers crossed the line in a solid 11th spot.

The second moto would become the Antonio Cairoli show. The Italian rocketed out of the gate to grab the hole-shot and never looked back. Controlling the moto from start to finish he never put a foot wrong.  Prado and Jonass would have an unfortunate coming together which re-aggravated Prado’s back injury. Jonas quickly remounted and fought back to 10th spot. Bogers again produced a solid result with 8th place giving the dutchman 8th overall for the MXGP.

Thor’s MX2 rookie, Mattia Guadagnini, experienced a bad start in moto 1 and also went down in the opening laps, sending him to the back of the pack. He dug deep to claw his way back to 11th. Moto 2 started much better for the Italian as he was in the top 5 exiting the first turn. An altercation with Vialle and Renaux handed Gaudagnini second spot which he defended right till the checkered flag. His 11-2 score was just shy of podium overall in 4th spot.

The 3rd and final leg of the triple header will take place on Sunday 31st October.
