THOR RACE REPORT:  Drama for Prado in Teutschenthal.

Round 11 of the FIM Motocross world championship held in Teutschenthal, Germany will go down as the battle of the titans.  With the covid spectator cap lifted in Germany, a full crowd turned out to watch, with moderate weather conditions making track conditions ideal.

Thor’s Jorge Prado rocketed out of the gate to grab the hole-shot in moto 1 but was quickly passed by Herlings as he took a wide line and carried more momentum going down the pit lane straight. Prado retaliated two laps later in the same spot to take over the lead again. A heated battled ensued with the top 4 riders within a second of each other. Herlings made a move in the final laps but once again Prado countered immediately to keep the lead. In a dramatic finish line collision, Prado crossed the line first with Herlings second, however both riders collided midair which resulted in Prado being taken to hospital for stiches. The Spaniard would miss the second moto. Antonio Cairoli would ride a lonely moto in 5th with Pauls Jonass not far behind in 6th and team-mate Bogers holding on to 9th at the end of the 35min + 2 lap race.

Pauls Jonass set himself up for a good result in moto 2 after a great start in second spot. He was passed by championship leader, Tim Gasjer, and tried to grab the tow. With a jostle of positions throughout the race Jonass eventually claimed 4th with Bogers in seventh and Cairoli in 10th.

MX2 rookie Mattia Guadagnini, battled on the rutted and technical circuit. A crash in moto 1 left the Italian just inside the top 20. On a track that was hard to pass on he did his best to salvage 13th. A mid pack start in moto 2 saw Guadagnini have to fight for as many places as possible in the opening laps. He moved from 15th to 8th in the space of 10 mins but then lost 2 places in the final moments to end 10th. He still occupies 3rd in the championship standings.

Riders, teams and trucks hit the road south to Lacapelle Marrival in the south of France for round 12 on the 10th of October.
