Thor Race Report

Thor race report: Prado and Guadagnini take top honours in Loket.

The picturesque Loket circuit in the Czech republic has seen a THOR double victory for round 5 of the FIM motocross world championship.

Both Jorge Prado in the  MXGP class and Mattia Gudagnini in MX2 took top overall honours while Antonio Cairoli moves in on the championship lead.

Jorge Prado took the hole-shot in moto 1 and never put a foot wrong after coming under pressure from championship leader Tim Gajser.  The Spaniard controlled the race while team-mate Antonio Cairoli had to deal with a top ten start and could only make his way into 6th by the end of the 35min + 2 lap race.  Pauls Jonass was having a strong ride until he was sidelined with a mechanical issue.

Roles were reversed in moto 2 when Cairoli lead from the start with Prado hot on his heels.  The 9-time world champ then put the hammer down and pulled a sizeable gap.  Prado lost out on a spot to Sewer while Gajser had to pull into the pits after a big get off.  Jonass had a strong ride to 6th spot meanwhile Prado would take overall victory with Cairoli moving into second in the championship standings. The Italian has taken a sizeable chunk of points away from current leader Gajser as he now trails by 11 points.

Mattia Guadagnini once again proved that his rookie year is no fluke as he marched to a convincing moto 1 victory after a strong performance that would the leave the competitors scratching their heads.  A lesser start in moto 2 had Guadagnini fighting for a podium spot however he played safe and settled into 5th to claim the overall victory and is now within 2 points of the championship lead.

Next on the MXGP calendar is the infamous Lommel sand circuit in Belgium on the 1st August which certainly separates the men from the boys.
