Thor Race report: Prado podiums in Mantova 2.

Round 10 of the FIM motocross world championship has seen Thor’s Jorge Prado miss out on the overall win for the second leg of the triple header held in Mantova, Italy.

The two time MX2 world champ and MXGP rookie grabbed another hole-shot in moto1 and proceeded to control the moto from start to finish. The cool Spaniard never faltered even with pressure from Sewer and Febvre and went on to win with a slight margin. Antonio Cairoli produced an amazing ride considering his broken nose which he sustained a few days earlier.  The 9-time world champ kept Tim Gajser at bay the entire moto and crossed the line in 4th place to reduce the championship lead to a mere 3 points. Factory GasGas rider, Glenn Coldenhoff had to muscle his way into the top ten. With such a fast pace been set from the drop of the gate, Coldenhoff did well to catch up to 7th spot by the time the checkered flag was waved.

First turn mayhem in moto 2 forced both Cairoli and Prado out wide leaving them with more work to do on the opening lap. The Mantova circuit was extremely hard to pass on so there was no real change in positions for the top 5 riders with Febvre leading from the get-go. Prado stalled his machine while in 5th spot and trailing team-mate Cairoli. He quickly restarted and slotted into 7th and then gained another spot when Sewer went down. He would remain in 6th till the end of the moto to secure second spot on the podium. Antonio Cairoli salvaged 4thposition which would deliver the same points as Gajser for the day. A great job considering the discomfort he was in and he keeps the title chase very much alive with a 5-point deficit over Gajser. Coldenhoff bettered his moto 1 score to finish 5th being closer to the action up front.

The final Mantova leg will take place on the 4th October where weather forecasts show rain which could mix up the results in this closely contested MXGP world title chase.
