Thor Race Report

Thor race report: Jorge wins Faenza 2 for first career MXGP victory.

After a rough start to the year with injuries; Jorge Prado has won his first ever MXGP overall at the MXGP of Città di Faenza, the second leg of the triple header hosted at the Italian circuit in the Emilia Romagna region.

Earmarked as KTM’s next MXGP successor to the likes of Cairoli and Herlings, at only 20 years old the likeable Spaniard lead both motos on a rough and technical circuit after two great start starts which saw him set the pace.  In moto 1 a small mistake would hand the advantage to Jeremy Sewer and in moto 2 a hard charging Gajser snuck past however Prado pressured the former world champ right to the checkered flag to take the overall victory.

Still struggling with a knee issue, Antonio Cairoli gained valuable points in the championship hunt, with current leader Jeffrey Herlings not making the race when he crashed in early morning warm-up.  The race in Faenza was also a milestone in the Italian’s race career being his 250th MXGP start.  The Nine-time world champ posted a 4-3 score and was 1 point shy of an overall podium however he has now closed the gap to 22 points as he sits in second place.

Glenn Coldenhoff rode two strong moto’s on the tricky Faenza circuit.  The Dutchman pushed hard in moto 1 after a mediocre start left him outside the top 10.  Picking off riders lap after lap he muscled his way into 6thby the end of the 35 minute moto.  Coldenhoff went 1 position better in moto 2 for a 6-5 score and 6thoverall.

Riders will certainly be feeling the effects of the heat and racing fatigue as they head into the 3rd leg and round 8 of the series this Sunday 13 the Sept.
