Cairoli podiums in Faenza to keep in the championship hunt.

The spectacular hillside track of Faenza has hosted round 6 of the FIM Motocross world championship, the first of a triple header to be held in the Provence of Ravenna, Italy.

Fast starter Ivo Monticelli, lead the opening moto after nicking the lead from hole-shot king Jorge Prado. Antonio Cairoli quickly moved into 3rd spot and gave chase to fellow team-mate Pardo who was holding off a charging Jeffrey Herlings. The freight train was joined by Jeremy Sewer with Prado leading the way with his smooth riding style. With 5 minutes left on the clock Herlings made a move on a tiring Prado to take victory over Sewer and Cairoli. Glenn Coldenhoff made the most he could of a top ten start but couldn’t find that extra speed to join the train up front.  He settled for seventh after a good battle with Gasjer.

Jorge Prado notched up another impressive hole-shot and controlled the race up front once again with Herlings and Sewer in tow. Cairoli missed his start but did a great job in clawing back the difference to the leading trio. In a carbon copy of the first moto, Prado started to tire with 5 minutes to go allowing Herlings to take the victory over Sewer and Cairoli. Glenn Coldenhoff completely missed his start and had to come from a long way down in the pack. The gutsy Dutchman recovered to 8th position.

With very little time to rest the second leg of the triple header will take place on Wednesday 9th September in similar hot and dry conditions.
