Coldenhoff wins MXGP of Latvia to make GASGAS history!

After a five month hiatus, the FIM Motocross world championship, resumed under strict conditions at the Zelta Zirgs circuit in Latvia for the first of a triple header to be held in the Baltic state.

Sweltering conditions would not stop Thor’s factory GasGas rider, Glenn Coldenhoff from taking overall victory with two impressive rides on the loamy track.  The friendly Dutchman led moto1 however an out of track excursion relegated the lead to Gajser with Coldenhoff following closely to the checkered flag.  A second moto, massive hole-shot, rocketed Coldenhoff into the lead and he never looked back!  Controlling the moto from start to finish ,Coldenhoff took a well-deserved victory handing GAGAS a historical first MXGP win for the motorcycle brand. Coldenhoff has now jumped to 3rd place on the championship standings.

Jorge Prado and Tony Cairoli had a tough outing for round 3 with Cairoli missing his customary good starts.  Still getting back to fitness after a recent broken collarbone, the 2 x MX2 world champ, showed flashes of speed and great technique but came short on race fitness after the 2 x 35+ 2 Lap motos. Both riders will certainly be looking for more when round 4 takes place on Wednesday 12 August for the second of the triple header.
