Thor Race report: Coldenhoff takes stunning victory in Imola.

Thor’s Glenn Coldenhoff has taken a stunning victory at round 15 of the FIM MXGP series held at the historic Imola race circuit in Italy.

Thor’s Glenn Coldenhoff has taken a stunning victory at round 15 of the FIM MXGP series held at the historic Imola race circuit in Italy. Coldenhoff’s weekend started strong when he qualified in second place behind newly crowned world champ, Tim Gasjer. The sweltering weather and technical circuit played to Coldenhoff’s advantage as he grabbed a good start in moto 1. Hounding Gautier Paulin for 3 laps, Coldenhoff made his move and then set a string of blistering laps together to pull a comfortable lead. He controlled the race and took his first GP race win of the 2019 season.

Coldenhoff stamped his approval on moto 2 as well when he grabbed the hole-shot and lead from start to finish keeping a hard charging Gajser at bay. The double victory was a remarkable achievement for the likable Dutchman after sustaining a neck injury at the start of the season.

On the contrary, Team-mate’s Max Anstie and Ivo Montecelli were dealt some unfortunate cards in Imola. Anstie was hospitalized on Saturday evening after the qualification race when he was battling to breathe.   After further medical examination it was discovered that his injury sustained in Lommel two weeks prior resulted in a collapsed lung which ruled Anstie out of Sunday’s race. Ivo Monticelli was caught up in a crash which reverted in a trip to the hospital for the unfortunate Italian.

Tommy Searle bounced back to post two strong and consistent races in Imola. He bettered his first moto 8th after rocketing to a great start in moto 2 and held onto 7th spot for a commendable 6th overall.

The picturesque circuit of Uddevalla in Sweden will host round 16 on the 24th August.
