THOR RACE REPORT: Desalle impressive at Trentino MXGP.

Thor’s Clement Desalle keeps getting stronger and with round 3 of the MXGP world championship done and dusted the consistent Belgian has notched up another podium result with an impressive second overall at the picturesque Pietramurata circuit in Trentino, Italy.

Desalle set the fastest lap of the race in moto 1 has he shadowed Jeffrey Herlings throughout most of the 30 minute + 2 laps race keeping the Dutchman within striking distance.   A lesser start in moto 2 had Desalle jostling for positions in the open lap but he quickly pushed through to 3rd where he had to settle as Cairoli and Herlings were too far gone.   Desalle’s 2-3 score strengthens his 3rd position in the championship standings.

MXGP rookie, Julien Lieber, once again showed he has what it takes to run the pace in the MXGP field. Lieber rode to a strong 9th place in moto 1 holding his own against Van Horebeek, Sewer and Coldenhoff. An unfortunate first turn crash saw a gutsy ride by the rookie to recover to 15th to maintain his 10th place in the championship standings.

Bos Racings’s Evgeny Bobryshev, bounced back in moto 2 for 9th spot, placing the friendly Russian 11 overall with a 15-9 score. Bobryshev also had to deal with illness over the weekend but proved he was tough as nails as he showed good speed in the final moto of the day. Former GP winner, Ken Dedycker filled in again for injured Jordi Tixier, and could manage 16th place in moto 2.

Thor also took it’s first podium of the season in EMX125 class with Diga Racing’s Emil Weckman putting in an dominating performance to lead the first EMX125 race from start to finish.   A lesser start in moto 2 left Weckman with a mountain of work to do but the tenacious racer from Finland, grit his teeth and fought back to second position to tie on points with local favourite Emilio Scuteri. Weckman has narrowed the gap in the championship standings and sits in second overall only 6 points shy of the lead.
