Cairoli ends 2020 FIM MXGP series in 3rd overall!

The 18th and final round of the FIM MXGP series has concluded the triple header event held in Trentino Italy at the Pietramurata circuit.  With the MXGP title already decided it was a battle between Antonio Cairoli and Jeremy Seewer with only 4 points separating 2nd and 3rd in the championship.

A missed start in moto 1, left Cairoli with some catching up to do while Seewer occupied 3rd spot giving the Swiss a slight advantage. Ivo Monticelli was the fast starter as he grabbed the hole-shot and lead in front of Gajser for two laps.  Track conditions were slick and tricky making it hard to pass. Cairoli could only make it up to 6th position which would leave the deciding moto to determine who would claim runner up in the championship.

As the gate dropped for the final moto of the year, Cairoli was hit going into the first turn which damaged his gear lever forcing the 9-time champ to retire prematurely.  Monticelli could not replicate his first moto hole-shot and had to come from mid pack to 12th to salvage 13th overall.

Both Jorge Prado and Glenn Coldenhoff rounded out the top 10 in the championship with 6th and 8th respectively, despite Prado missing several rounds due to a Covid-19 infection and Coldenhoff being sidelined with a neck injury sustained in the Lommel MXGP.
